The Skaurud Name

The Skaurud name comes from a farm in Kolbu, Norway “The Skaugerud Farm.” Our great, great, great grandfather migrated to the United States in 1853 at the age of 18 and settled in Iowa. Johannes Olsen was his given name. However, upon his arrival in America he changed his last name to Skaurud – using a variation of the Skaugerud Farm name where he had been working as a cobbler. Johannes later moved his family to Norman County, Minnesota. The Skaugerud Farm in Norway is now owned by brothers, Ole and Gubrand Kjolseth and their families. From the farmsite you can enjoy a beautiful view that overlooks rolling valleys in three directions. In the summer of 2008 we had a chance to visit the Skaugerud Farm and meet the Kjolseth families. After visiting the farm and meeting with the Kjolseth families, Ole and his son, Hans, decided to visit our farm in the spring of 2010. It’s been a great experience to get to know each other’s families and the common link we have.
